A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at one o'clock in the afternoon at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill, NC, with Pastor J. Arlen Smith officiating.
Jim was born July 7, 1924 in Birmingham, AL, and was a son of the late James L. Brasher, Sr. and Ola Wright Brasher. He moved his family to Charlotte, NC in 1956, and on to Matthews, NC in 1961, where he remained until moving to the Carriage Club in Charlotte.
Also preceding Jim in death is his beloved wife of 69 years, Frances Fendley Brasher.
Survivors include a brother, Floyd Jackson Brasher (Marlin); children, Kathy Brasher Johnson (Lee), Diane Brasher Helms (Ron) and James Louis Brasher, III (Brenda). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Melissa Johnson Lingerfelt and Jennifer Johnson Tuttle; and great-grandchildren, Amanda Rachel Lingerfelt, Eric Shane Lingerfelt and Taylor Leigh Tuttle.
For his service in the Army-Air Corps during WWII, 1943-1945, Jim was awarded a Purple Heart, a Silver Star, and three Bronze Stars. He was owner of the JL Brasher Co., a manufacturer’s agent, retiring in 1981.
Jim was an avid fisherman, ran the Charlotte Marathon at the age of 54, and loved his motorcycle, which he rode in every state in the continental US. A bicycle enthusiast, Jim was a member of the Carolina Tar Heels Cyclist Club with 210,000 documented bike riding miles to his credit. He will be very much missed by his loving family.
