Ruben served in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict with the 169th Engineer Batallion from 1965 to 1967. He met his beautiful bride, Maria Ester Garcia, after his tour and they married on December 5, 1970 in Brownsville, TX. Ruben was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In 1968, Ruben began a long career in the Rio Grande Valley Gas Company. He worked for 25 years until his retirement in 1993. Ruben was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Ruben was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Canyon Lake, TX.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Maria Ester Garcia; along with 3 children, Liza and Angel Mireles of San Antonio, TX; Ruben and Samantha Garcia Jr., of San Antonio; Michelle Garcia Pena of New Braunfels, TX; 4 grandchildren, Jade and Seth Garcia and Quentin and Emma Peña; 7 siblings; Luis Garcia Jr., Enrique Garcia, Jaime Garcia, Celia Garcia, Margarita Hernandez, Olivia Maldonado, Elida Mosqueda; and many loving nieces, nephews and relatives.
Ruben was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Eudocio, Noe, and Fidel Garcia.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4th, 2013 from 1pm to 9pm and Friday, April 5th, 2013 from 9am to 9pm with a Holy Rosary at 7pm at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista.
A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Luke Catholic Church 2800 Rockwell at 10am on Saturday, April 6th, 2013 with a committal service to Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Luis Garcia Jr., Enrique Garcia Sr., Jaime Garcia Sr., Jesus Hernandez, Joe Mosqueda and Rolando Lugo Sr. Honorary Pallbearers Tomas De la Fuente Jr., Ricardo Luna, Mike Guajardo and Robert Perkins III.
