Charles “Mac” McLean, 95, of Sarasota, FL, died on July 13, 2013. Visitation will be held at 1:30pm on Weds, July 17, 2013 at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00pm at Palms-Robarts Memorial Park.
He was born May 10, 1918 in Newtownards, Northern Ireland and came to the States by way of Canada at age 11. Connecticut, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Arkansas were all considered home at one point. He retired in 1985 after 27 years as Quality Control/Personnel Manager of Doughboy Plastics/Hoffinger Industries in Helena, Arkansas and became a Floridian. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Helena and Sarasota.
He served as 1st Lt in the 137th Regiment 35th Infantry Division of the US Army, fighting in Central Europe, Normandy, and the Battle of the Bulge. Service medals awarded include the Bronze Star/Oak Leak and the Purple Heart. As a Mason, he was a member of the Somerset Lodge No 34 AF & AM in Norwich, CT, Royal Arch Chapter No 277, and the Mount Vernon Commandery No 73 Knights Templar in Hazelton, PA.
He is predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Clara. Survivors include 2 daughters, Betty Henderson (Jim Frank) of Sunset Beach, NC and Maureen Stoetzel (Fritz) of Sarasota; grandsons, Jim Wortham (Samantha) of MD, Kyle Wortham of Chicago, and Jack Stoetzel of VA; and great-granddaughter, Taylre of MO.
He will be missed.
