Robert James Kraatz was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 4, 1925 to Harry and Elsie Kraatz. He was one of 12 children. Robert passed away peacefully on July 17, 2013 in Novi, Michigan at the age of 88. Robert was a proud WWII Army Air Corps decorated veteran who lived in Farmington Hills, Michigan for many years.
He was the beloved husband of the late Nadine for almost 50 years until her death in 1996. Loving father "Pops" of Diane (Tom) Shay, The late Robert Lee, and The late David James. Dear grandpa of Kelly, Michelle, Michael, Jennifer, Shelly, Lee Ann, Dawn, Larry, Robby and Holly. Dear great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather of several.
Survived by 5 siblings: Dolores (the late Sam) Giannosa, Shirley (the late Leonard) Hyduk, Raymond (the late Bernice) Kraatz, Gordon Kraatz, and Harvey (the late Jo) Kraatz.
Predeceased by his parents, his wife, his two sons and his 6 siblings: Viola Wedge, Leona Lapek, Bernadine Krieger, Kenneth Kraatz, Ralph Kraatz, and Sherman Kraatz.
The family will receive friends for a Visitation on Friday, July 19, 2013 from 2-8pm. The Funeral Service will be at 11:00am, on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Harry J. Will Funeral Home 25450 Plymouth, Redford, MI 48239. (Just east of Beech Daly)
Robert will be laid to rest next to his wife in Livonia, Michigan at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park Cemetery, with Committal Prayers and Military Honors by the United States Air Force Funeral Honors Team.
The Funeral Service and Committal Prayers will be led by Reverend Timothy P. Halboth of Grace Lutheran Church in Redford Township, Michigan.
