Nettie Frances Treadwell Gay, 87, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Woods, Dr. Charles Michael Blizzard and Mr. Chuck Hattaway officiating. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gay was born to the late Lewis Treadwell and Geneva Taylor Treadwell in Covington, GA on August 20, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty two years, Arthur N. Gay and her brothers, Edward Treadwell, Bobby Treadwell and her sister, Elsie Garner.
A native of Covington, GA, she moved to Macon in 1943 to work at the Naval Ordnance Plant where she met her husband and they were married on December 16, 1944. In 1960 she went back to school to earn her Masters of Cosmetology certification. She was the owner/operator of Frances’ Beauty Shop from 1963 until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and a very active member of the Lynmore Estates Neighborhood Watch, where she served as a co-chair and as chair of the street captains for many years. In 1998, she was selected as one of the top 5 finalists for Mother of the Year at the Georgia Women’s Show.
In early 2000, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award for community service from the local Daughters American Revolution. Frances was known for excellent cooking and loved to prepare something special for her friends and relatives as a surprise. She was devoted to her family and friends, especially her former customers, and her Birthday Group.
Her memory will always be treasured by her daughter, Judy Heath of Macon; son, Terrell (Judy T.) Gay of Warner Robins; her grandchildren, Amy (Greg) Bell, Bobby (Crystal) Gay both of Warner Robins, great granddaughter, Emily Bell, the light of her life; step-grandsons, Tony (Mitzi) Heath, Jody (Karen) Heath, step-great grandchildren, Hannah Leigh, Anna Claire, Sarah Beth, Kaleigh and Jackson Heath all of Macon; sister, Paulette Brown of Covington; brothers-in-law, John (Cathy) Garner of Covington, Glen (Jerri) Barton of Parrott, GA and Wendell (Barbara) Ryals of Dothan, AL; sisters-in-law, Irene DuBose of Manning, SC, Daryl Stanfield of Valdosta, GA, Ivanez McBride of Peachtree City, GA, Helen Gay of Jacksonville, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
