J.L. (Jack) Hochenedel passed away on August 27,2013. He was born in Baton Rouge, La. on August 10, 1922. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a B.S. in Chemistry and was active in student affairs as President of Student Senate, Vice President of the student body, cheerleader and member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and other campus organizations. He served in the European Theater during World War 2 as an infantry officer in all five campaigns from Omaha Beach through the end of the war in Europe. He was separated from active service as a captain.
Upon graduation from college he joined Fisher Scientific Co. in Pittsburgh, Pa. where he met his wife Shirley Stokes, of New Kensington, Pa. Later, he served as Director of Technical Services for the Solvay Division of Allied Chemical Corporation in Syracuse, N.Y. and as National Marketing Manager for a number of chemical product lines at Allied Headquarters in Morristown, N.J. He returned to Houston to join Magna Corp., the oilfield chemical company which was later merged into the chemical operating unit of Baker Hughes, Inc. He became Executive Vice President of Magna where his responsibilities required extensive worldwide travel. It was during this period, that he completed the Harvard Business School Senior International Management Program held at the time in Vevey, Switzerland. He was a member of Champions Golf Club, the University Club and various professional organizations. He also served as deacon at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his three children, Susan and husband Jean Claude Devoille of Carnation, WA; Jeffrey and wife Amanda Hochenedel of San Antonio, TX.; and Jennifer and deceased husband Philip Faith of Houston who lived here all of their married life. Seven grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren also survive his life.
A memorial service will be held at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church with internment at Memorial Oaks. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
