Gayle Schiffman Macey, our beautiful and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend died Monday September 2, 2013. Gayle was born March 19, 1927, the first of five children of Fredrick and Pearl Skinner Schiffman.
She had a wonderful childhood growing up in Logan and attended Logan City Schools graduating from Logan High in 1945. That same year she married her incredible, handsome, childhood sweetheart Woolass Macey in the Logan LDS Temple. Gayle and Wooley made their home in Salt Lake City where together they raised five children, four sons and one daughter. Gayle was a "stay at home" mom where she took great care of her children and supported them in all their activities. When the children were grown and started their own families Gayle began her college career at the University of Utah earning a BA and MA in Special Education. She taught school at Truman Elementary for 15 years and enjoyed helping those special children with their learning. She was honored as a Master Resource Teacher.
She was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many callings including Relief Society President, Young Women's President and Gospel Doctrine teacher. She was blessed to serve in the Salt Lake Temple as an ordinance worker for several years.
Gayle and Wooley loved to travel and visited the majority of the 50 states and many foreign countries. They also enjoyed many cruises with their lifelong friends. Gayle loved music and performed in the Allegro Chorus for 46 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and served as state president. She was honored as Woman of the Year by Omega chapter. She also enjoyed her membership in DUP and the Emerald Book Club, as well as her volunteer assignments with the Utah Heritage Foundation.
More than anything, her greatest joy was her family. She loved being with them and loved the many family reunions in Bear Lake, the birthday parties, holiday parties, Sunday dinners and many trips.
She is survived by her five children; Michael, Elizabeth Naccarato, Scott (Mimi), Rex (Heidi) and Joel (Katy), and by 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Her four siblings also survive her; Donna Faye (Jim) Gorman, Rita (John) Phillips, Reed (Dixie) Schiffman, and Lynn (Karen) Schiffman. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sweetheart Woolass A Macey.
The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the healthcare providers at University Hospital NCCU and Intermountain Healthcare Hospice for their compassionate care of Gayle.
