Called to military service with the Minnesota national guard in September of 1940.
Proudly served in World War II in the U.S. Army 494th AA Artillery Gun Batter B. Served in Iceland, England, Normandy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Rose to the rant of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star. Honorably discharged in September of 1945.
Married Mertie L. Hambrick on September 19, 1945 in Dallas, Texas. Moved to Idyllwild, California, then to Hemet, California and finally in 1956 to Rialto, California. Two children, William and Jane were born in Hemet.
Dobby worked for California Electric Power Company from 1946 to 1964 and upon its merger with Southern California Edison, with Edison until October of 1979.
Dobby was a devoted member and supporter of Grace Lutheran Church in Rialto since 1956.
Dobby was also an active member of the American Legion following his discharge from duty in World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 800 in Idyllwild, California, Post 53 in Hemet, California and a Life Member, Past Commander, Past Adjutant and held many other positions within the American legion Post 422 in Rialto, California.
Dobby is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mertie (age 105!), Brother Raymond of Walnut, California, son William and his wife Connie of Long Beach, California, daughter Jane of Riverside, California, grandson Matthew and Granddaughter Elizabeth and her husband Dave Cannata, and Elizabeth's sons and Dobby's Great-Grandsons Matthew and William Reynolds, all of Long Beach, California and Mertie's Angel Caregivers Laura and Roosevelt Wright of Fontana, California and other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Dobby and his family have requested contributions in Dobby's name to Grace Lutheran Church, 539 N. Acacia, Rialto, California 92376.
