James J. Sahady, “Jim,” age 83, of Fall River, passed away, Thursday, November 28, 2013 in Massachusetts General Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Rosemarie P. (Williams) Sahady to whom he had been married for 47 years.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Saleem and Katoom (Hakeem) Sahady, he was a lifelong resident of Fall River and graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1948.
An Army Veteran of the Korean War, he served six years in the military and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1954. He was former Commander of the American Lebanese War Veterans Association Staff Sgt. Philip Sabra Post.
He joined the Fall River Police Department and graduated from the Massachusetts State Police Academy, Class of 1955. He served his entire career as a Police Officer in the Uniform Division for 32 years and retired in 1987.
Active in his church, he was a lifetime member of St. Anthony of the Desert Church. He was a member of the National Apostolate Maronites, St. Sharbel Men’s Society, former treasurer of the Lebanon American Society, Fall River Police Retirement Association, Knights of Columbus Fall River Council #86, member of the St. Jude Children’s Foundation and a member of the First Friday Club. He and his wife often traveled to conventions and retreats and was totally committed to these organizations.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Red Sox and Patriots. He was always physically active and enjoyed his daily walks. After he and his wife retired, they traveled all over the world, and wintered every year in Florida where they met many new friends. He and his wife enjoyed visits to Lebanon, where he had extensive family and was a great proponent of his ethnic heritage. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who always enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son; James J. Sahady Jr. and his wife Susan of Fall River, one daughter; Kerry Lee Crowley and her husband Brian P. of Dighton, two sisters; Janet Sahady and Jemail Marshall both of Fall River, three precious grandchildren; Patrick J., Connor J., and Declan J. Crowley all of Dighton, and several dear nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and godchildren. He was brother of the late Fred, Philip, and Abraham Sahady, Lureese “Jackie” Hassoun, Rose and Charles Sahady.
His Funeral will be held Tuesday, December 3 , 2013 at 9:00 a.m. from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of the Desert Church, 300 North Eastern Ave., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited.
