Joan Dianne Bellet, 70, of Southampton was led before God by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, 22 February. She passed away unexpectedly after suffering an apparent heart attack.
Joan was a devoted and loving servant to the Lord. Service was her life: she served the church, her family, her friends and the community. A strong, yet humble Christian, she was the finest saint for the Kingdom of God as a leader at Davisville Church. She had a special place in her heart for children’s ministry, where she gave generously of her time and skills. Her worship talents included: song, piano and harp.
She loved working with children and that motivated her to pursue a career in elementary education. After graduation from West Chester State, she began teaching in Maple Shade. But 4 years later, her life’s dream was stopped abruptly by renal failure. Lengthy and frequent dialysis tested her will for several years, until news of a donor gave her the best birthday present ever at age 31! With the miracle of new kidneys, ‘Miss Bellet’ returned to the classroom and spent the next 33 years at Stackpole Elementary, where she received awards for Excellence in Teaching, Outstanding Achievement, and a nomination for PA Teacher of the Year.
From an early age, ‘Cousin Joanie’ excited at each new addition to the family, and as an adult, just couldn’t wait to shower every little cousin with Disney and Winnie the Pooh ‘love’. Joanie’s passion for family, combined with her faith, love and generosity made her the perfect Godmother. And as life put strains on our family traditions, she gladly opened her home to be the venue for holiday reunions. Servant, saint, teacher, mentor, cousin, little sister, godmother and friend - Joanie will be dearly missed.
She is predeceased by her father, Clarence (Monty) Bellet, mother, Evelyn Baumner, and step-father, Allen (Ted) MacDonald, all of Philadelphia. She is survived by her cousin, Carol Schmidt of New Port Richey, FL and Carol’s 4 children, Al, Carl, Deb, and Rob, their spouses, their children, to whom Joanie was their very special cousin and/or Godmother, and many dear close friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to her service 12 noon on Tuesday, March 4th at the Davisville Church, 325 Street Rd., Southampton, PA 18966. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until the time of service. The interment will be in Chelten Hills Cemetery in Philadelphia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Davisville Church Children’s Ministries.
Arrangements under the direction of Wm. Rowen Grant Funeral Home Inc., Southampton, PA.
