69, of Midlothian, Va., passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014. He was born on February 2, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. George was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Vogel; and his father, Otto Vogel. He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Libby Vogel; his son, Garrett Vogel; his daughter-in-law, Tristan Vogel; and two granddaughters, Mia La Frazia and Ava Vogel. George received a Bachelor's of Education from Parson's College and a Master's Degree in Counseling and Guidance from Roosevelt University. George served in the Vietnam War as part of the U.S. Army. He was passionate about serving veterans and their causes. He served in many positions including commander of local VFW Post. He was an author, teacher, mentor and fighter for children. Despite his many accomplishments, all he wanted to be remembered for was being "Garrett's dad." A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at VFW Post 9808, 7168 Flag Lane, Mechanicsville, Va.Arrangements under the direction of Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory, Richmond, VA.
