Jessie James Henry, Jr. was the second child of six children born to Ardella Henry and Jesse James Henry. He was born on November 27, 1944, in Rayville, Louisiana. He attended Midway Elementary School, Dana Jr. High School, Point Loma High School, and graduated from Lincoln High School, all of San Diego, CA. As a child he united with Mt. Erie Baptist Church and was baptized during his youth by the Late Rev. Moses Haywood. During his later years he served faithfully at Ecclesia Christian Fellowship, San Bernardino, as a Deacon, choir member, teacher, and supporter of the educational building fund. He fellowshipped with the Lord daily through activities at the church. His health did not stop him from serving. He established and organized an online prayer warrior network making sure all family members, friends, church family and acquaintances received daily praises, and prayer request. He became a living testimony at the VA Hospital.
He was a faithful, kind, and loving father of Jesse James III, William Edward and Christopher DePaul. Although he had an enormous amount of love for all, his focus was on his family and God. He did everything to keep them together. He was a faithful son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. Jessie enjoyed fishing, modeling, hunting, coaching youth sports, bowling and lifting the spirits of those around him by telling jokes, singing, and dancing.
After graduating from High School, Jessie enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 27 years of active duty. While serving he was a member of the Darby’s Rangers Drill Team and the Air Force Boxing Team. After military service he worked for the U.S. Postal Service, the Veterans Administration Hospital (retired from) and the U.S. Census in the year of 2000 and 2010.
Jessie was preceded in death by his father Jesse James Henry and two brothers, Earnest E. Henry (Dirty) and Eugene Henry (Snooch). He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Ardella Henry, of San Diego, California; sons, Jesse James III (Toni), of Fontana, California, William Edward (Amanda), of Dubai, Christopher DePaul (Cherita), of Hesperia, California, sister, Dorothy Patterson (Kirkland); brothers, Hakim Alaji (Khalada); and Sylvester. Jesse will be missed by his 10 grandchildren: Tatyana, William Jr., Akosua, Christopher Jr., Qmarion, Nahj, Niyahn, Damarea, Damaji, Samadhi; his 17 nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.
