Bernice Bruner was born February 1, 1931 in Lake City, Arkansas. She was the second of six children. Shortly after graduating high school, Bernice met and married L.V. Bruner on August 18, 1950. They began their lives together as tenant farmers in Craighead County, Arkansas where they raised cotton. In 1961 Bernice received her teaching degree from Arkansas State College in Jonesboro, Arkansas and began teaching Third Grade. In 1964 Bernice and her family moved to Casa Grande, Arizona where she taught Elementary School for 23 years. Retiring in 1987 she and L.V. devoted themselves to their family and the community for the remainder of their active lives. Bernice was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and Spirit of Joy United Methodist Church in Coolidge, Arizona. Bernice is survived by a sister, Bettye Corbin of Rockford, Illinois, a daughter and son-in-law, Tony and Kathy Massenti of Apache Junction, Arizona, a son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Elizabeth Bruner of Washington D.C., four grandchildren, Michael Bruner of San Diego, California, Carrie Bruner Reyes and Patrick Bruner Reyes of Salem, Massachusetts and Kristin Bruner of San Diego, California and one great grandchild, Asher Lee Reyes. Bernice was preceded in life after death by her husband of 62 years, L.V. Bruner. It is fantastic to see them re-united once again.
