About

Mount Auburn Funeral Home & Cemetery are sister locations that provide funeral care and cemetery arrangements to residents of Chicago's western suburbs. The funeral home was the first funeral home in the area to be built on cemetery property. Working together, the funeral home and cemetery teams serve people from diverse backgrounds, pledging each person compassionate care.

Mount Auburn Cemetery gates will be closed at 5pm daily. To reach the cemetery, please call 708-749-0022.

A funeral home for all

Front entrance at Mount Auburn Funeral HomeInfluenced by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie-style architecture, Mount Auburn Funeral Home is a 12,000-square-foot, non-denominational funeral home. Our team works with families of all faiths and cultures and focuses on creative memorial services that deeply reflect life. We have specialists well-versed in Chinese funeral rituals.

Our funeral home is warm and welcoming, and our team is experienced and caring. We know losing a loved one can be hard. That's why we are here to guide you through planning a funeral or memorial service every step of the way.

We celebrate life

Chapel at Mount Auburn Funeral HomeAll of our services are designed to give families peace of mind at one of the most challenging times in their lives. Our experienced staff knows just how to create your vision or bring your loved one's final wishes to reality. We offer everything from a traditional funeral to a modern celebration of life.

Personal touches can be small—photo displays and speeches by friends are common—or more elaborate. We could hang a cross behind the casket, have a motorcycle at the front door or wear the jerseys of a person's favorite sports team. And if it's a grand celebration of life that you're looking for—a modern gathering with themed decor, live music, favorite food and drinks, and a send-off that reflects the personality and passions of yourself or your loved one—that's our speciality.

These are just a few ideas. Let's imagine something special together.

History

Mausoleum at Mount Auburn CemeteryMount Auburn Cemetery was founded in 1895 and consisted of over 100 acres. This memorial park was designed and laid out under the supervision of Mr. O. C. Simonds, renowned landscape architect. It was the first cemetery in the Chicago area to be developed with park-style sections using only flush markers, which resulted in beautiful garden-like sections. This was revolutionary at the time, and as time passed this concept was embraced throughout the nation.

The entrance gate and office building served the Village of Stickney as their village hall meeting place until 1919, after which the village transferred to other facilities. Mount Auburn Funeral Home was completed in 1997 and has been proudly serving families since. Situated amongst the neighboring homes of the villages of Stickney and Forest View gives Mount Auburn a park-like atmosphere you don’t find at other facilities in the Chicago area. The result has been Mount Auburn becoming one of the premier non-sectarian cemeteries in the entire Chicagoland area.

In 2007, Mount Auburn Funeral Home & Cemetery both became part of the Dignity Memorial® network—the leading provider of funeral and cemetery services in North America with over 2,200 locations. Being a part of this expansive network allows us to offer a wide variety of benefits that, we believe, are extremely valuable. With over 80 acres, Mount Auburn Funeral Home & Cemetery offers a wide variety of options that can suit any need.

Mount Auburn Cemetery

Unique feature at Mount Auburn CemeterySpread across 90 acres surrounded by a quiet Stickney neighborhood, Mount Auburn Cemetery exudes park-like tranquility. Nearby residents walk, jog and bike through the grounds, which gives the cemetery a feeling of community.

Mount Auburn Cemetery has a variety of burial choices: traditional in-ground interment, private family estates, mausoleum entombment, lawn crypts and cremation niches.

Among the cemetery gardens are those for the Christian faith and the Chinese population. One of the cemetery’s more noteworthy features is a large marble statue called "Eyes of the Lord." Commissioned in Italy, the statue has eyes that seem to follow you as you move, watching over you. Mount Auburn Cemetery also has a section called Woodlawn dedicated to veterans. It includes 2 large cannons that were donated to the cemetery.

Photos convey a lot, but we invite you to visit the cemetery anytime either on your own or with a member of our team. To arrange a tour, please call 708-749-0022, and someone will be happy to show you around.

Military funerals

The team at Mount Auburn Funeral Home is well-versed in military funerals with honors. The funeral home also participates in the Homeless Veterans Burial Program, which helps veterans who have fallen on hard times. We believe that no matter the circumstances, every member of the armed services deserves a dignified memorial.

Community events

Mount Auburn Funeral Home maintains close ties with Stickney and nearby communities. Each year we sponsor a band for Music in the Park. We also hold an annual car and bike show that includes a bike blessing for the safety of motorists.

Our more traditional events include services for Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, 9/11 and the December holidays. The latter typically draw more than 600 people seeking comfort and fellowship.
