I first met Jim when my dad, Warren Martindale was running Southern Ice Co and later had many business dealings with him while I was working at Carpco and later at Jackson Pipe & Steel. He was always a pleasure to work with. Always more friend  than customer. He even helped my wife on  some personal work for our house. He will be sorely missed!

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Jim gave me a job when I was a 17 yr old kid. He hired me after I helped him sort some of those high headed red Brahman cattle. He called me “Cowboy”, gave me a lot of responsibility and expected me to do a mans job. He was tough and didn’t take a lot of excuses. Mostly he taught me to work hard and play hard. No matter how hard the job he would make sure we had fun. Never knew anyone else like him.

Jim was a pillar in the community and he will be missed tremoundly. When we first moved to Liberty Eylau my brother met Jim first and he allowed us a place to keep or cattle until we could secure a place. I will always remember his generosity to us. I want to thank him for 42years of service to the Texarkana area by helping so many companies,ranchers,farmers and all the others he helped along the way.i know it’s not always about the money but your love for your fellow man. Rest In Peace Jim you have earned it. I hope and pray his family can receive great peace and comfort in the Lord during this time of sorrow and pain in his passing so young. It was great knowing you and we will miss you daily.

When my family built a home in Liberty-Eylau, Jim and Kathy were our neighbors. Their children hadn't been born yet, so my brother Kevin and I would go over and pester them relentlessly.  Mostly Kevin, but I got to hang out some as well.

I started school in the middle of my junior high years there and it was traumatic for me leaving my old friends and I hadn't quite made new ones yet. The spring was particularly wet and beavers were building dams and backing up the water on to Jim and Kathy's property.  Jim let me go with him to tear down the dams, but the very next day the beavers would build them right back! We'd go back out and tear them down again! I never tore down beaver dans before or since! 

Jim liked to kid my brother and would make up stuff to tell him. Kevin had eaten dinner at Jim and Kathy's one night and came home telling us all kinds of facts (that Jim had filled his head with that were in fact, not facts at all) and about new foods that my mom needed to start making. Snog was at the top of Kevin's list. He wanted my mom to make snog, just like Kathy's! My mom could not figure out what snog was so she called Kathy to get the recipe.

Turns out that snog for the rest of us is called hominy! My mom had never made or served us hominy before, so "snog" was something new. Jim had told Kevin that it was a dish called snog and we have called hominy "snog" ever since!

I have great memories from that time in my life when we were new to the area and Jim and Kathy and their St. Bernard adopted us. 

Then they started a family and I started making friends and we didn't see each other as often, but this was a very sweet time for me as a young  teen to a new area without friends yet.

I am forever changed -- for the better -- because of their hospitality and Jim's humor and pranks. 

Much love and hugs for his family. Prayers for comfort and that this grief you feel now will be replaced  with warm, loving memories.

In one of Laci’s pictures, I saw Bubby.  I remember Bubby was the only dog I ever knew that could climb a tree and a ladder.  Jimmy was an amazing animal trainer!  I think he could do almost anything!  He was a great cousin to me!  I will miss him so much!

RIP FRIEND, MANY OF MEMORIES OF HUNTING TOGETHER, HOW TIME FLIES.
