Isabelle Novotny (nee Portales) aged 96 years, passed away Wednesday March 7th 2018 at her home in Thornton. Isabelle was born April 13, 1921 in Boulder, Colorado to Ramon Portales of San Louis Potosi, Mexico, and Victoria Reyes of Guadalupe de los Reyes, Mexico. She married Ernst Lopez of Denver Colorado in 1941 and to this union was born a daughter Cynthia Rhea. In 1952 Isabelle married Frank Novotny Jr of Chicago Illinois and to this union had 2 children, Frankie and Belinka Isabelle. She and her husband Frank were avid flea-market enthusiasts and collectors of toys and dolls. Always in high spirits, her smile could warm a room and when consoling others one could recall her phrase of “oh, yashishmadiya!” She will be greatly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Frank, Marion, and Dave Portales, sisters Lupe Rozales, Marty Castaneda, and Linda Baca, her first husband Ernst, her husband Frank, and her son Frankie Novotny. She is survived by her sisters Lucille Chavez, Rosalie Gonzales, brothers Ray and Robert Portales , two daughters Cynthia Haynes, and Belinka (Mike) Novotny- Held, her grandsons Josh Frazzini, and Bjorn (Yulia) Held, and one great granddaughter Keylani Held.
A mass in memory of Isabelle will be held on Thursday March 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Warli Castro officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Olinger Highland Cemetery, 10201 Grant Street, Thornton.
