COLUMBIA – Celebration of Life Services for Clyde Durham Crook, 80, will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church. Visitation will take place at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow the service at the church.
Mr. Crook was born in St. George, SC on March 9, 1938, and passed peacefully at home on March 9, 2018, surrounded by his family. Clyde was a graduate of Clemson University, a lifetime entrepreneur, and a member of Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church.
After graduating Clemson, Clyde joined the Upjohn Company for seven years. He and his wife met and married in Rome, GA. In 1968, Clyde returned to SC and settled in Columbia, where he owned and operated four Maryland Fried Chicken restaurants, two of which were the first in the franchise. He later owned several other restaurants, and a catering business. In 1980, he began a new venture in custom fabricated medical equipment, and other successful entrepreneurial endeavors.
His love of family and togetherness persisted throughout his life. Clyde was known for his skills in the kitchen, and always strived to to make all those around him happy. He treasured his time at his family’s beach house on Edisto, making memories with his siblings and their families, his mother, and extended relatives.
Clyde was the chair for the hospitality committee at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church for almost 20 years. He committed himself to doing all he could for the church.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Anne Perkins Crook; his son, Ronald Durham Crook (Daniel Kraus); his two daughters, Victoria Harris (Paul), Elizabeth Harris (Ryan); his three grandchildren, Beckett Kraus-Crook, Collin & Braden Harris; his brother, Charles Ronald Crook (Delaine); his sister, Judith Crook Bilton (Al).
He was predeceased by his parents, Barney Durham Crook and Hazel Crook Walters.
