After an extensive battle with pancreatic cancer, Marta Imelda Martinez entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the age of 61. Her tenacious spirit fought vigorously since diagnosis in July 2016 which was fueled by her love of life and those around her.
Marta’s two daughters, Jessica Garcia and Stephanie Gonzalez, along with son-in-laws Daniel Garcia and Dimas Gonzalez, and four grandsons Tristan Garcia, Julian Garcia, Aidan Garcia, and Asher Gonzalez were her pride and joy.
Marta was born on June 25, 1956 in Raymondville, Texas to father Martin R. Martinez, who proceeds her in death, and mother Imelda C. Martinez, who survives her. She is also survived by her sister Sofia Aviles and her four children and their families. As a single mother, Marta often worked multiple jobs in the fields of banking and education to provide for her two daughters. Her strong faith and determination allowed her to purchase her own home and even rebuild after losing everything during the floods of Tropical Storm Allison. She was a true fighter at heart all the way up until her last breath, a legacy that will live on in all the many lives she touched. Marta loved the beach, gardening, margaritas, and social events with her Red Hat Sisters. Her smile and joy was contagious. We find peace in knowing she is now dancing on the beach in heaven.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the wonderful staff and supporters of Harbor Hospice whose excellent care and compassion brought dignity and comfort in her last weeks of life. They wrapped their loving arms around Marta’s entire family as they journeyed through her last days. We are forever grateful.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am, Friday March 16, 2018 at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church 11507 Huffmeister Rd Houston, Texas 77065. Luncheon reception to follow.
