Candie Hammons Sackuvich, 69, died March 19, 2018, at her home in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born October 21, 1948, in Kansas City, Missouri, and was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a graduate of Argentine High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Kansas. She was a writer and editor at National Catholic Reporter and Sosland Publishing.
Candie was a proud grandma and her "monkeys" were the light of her life. She was an avid reader, a strong proponent of justice and a member of Mensa. She used her love of reading to study and understand the universe and the world around her, and was fascinated by topics such as genetics, sequences and patterns, and the cosmos.
She was married to Tim Sackuvich for 43 years. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Aimee Sackuvich and Nikkie Freeman (Wayne); and three grandchildren, Maya Freeman, Aydin Freeman and Camden Freeman. She was preceded in death by her mother, Flora Hoffman, and father, Dale Hammons.
A celebration of life and memorial service will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Grinter House Barn, 1420 S. 78th Street, Kansas City, Kansas.
