She was born on March 21, 1919, in Houston, Texas to Emory Pleasant Maness and Mattie Mae Harding. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 57 years, Lester Charles Coleman.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Ann Wolfer and husband Dale, son Ron Coleman and wife Sandra, two granddaughters, Erin Coleman and fiancé Kevin Price, Sarah Ferguson and husband Henry and on great grandson, Benjamin Ferguson.
Mitzie graduated from University of Houston in 1941—the first graduating class on the present campus. As a teacher, she retired from Galena Park School District. A long time member of Garden Oaks Baptist Church, She delighted in teaching the Esther class for many years and was also the pianist for the Adult I Sunday School department.
Mitzie enjoyed writing poetry for which she earned an Honorable Mention in a national Poetry Contest in 1990 and two of her poems have been published. Her favorite pastimes included playing the piano, reading and traveling.
The visitation will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2018, 2pm – 4pm at Heights Funeral Home. Graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, 10am at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
