Wanda June Calhoun

Born in Mayfield, KY, she graduated from Murray State University and received her Masters Degree in Library Science at the University of Michigan. In her 40 year library career she worked in the U of M Library and as Director of the Heidelberg College Library in Tiffin, Ohio. From there she became Director of the Eckerd College Library in St. Petersburg. FL. While there she took a two year leave to serve as a library consultant in the Philippines and SE Asia. In 1975 she accepted the position of Director of the Augusta Regional Library which she held until her retirement in 1995. She served a term as President of the Georgia Library Association and was very active in the Southeast Library Association. She was an avid sports fan and loved watching football, tennis and golf on television. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain. She was active in the community as a member of the Augusta Quota Club. She was a long time member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and led many church committees. At Brandon Wilde she served several years on the Resident Council.

She is survived by two cousins, Francis Boggs of Boulder, CO and Elizabeth Cvetic of OR, and good friends Richard and Donna Leach, her “family by choice.”

A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3131 Walton Way in Augusta, at 10 AM on Friday, April 13. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Mayfield, KY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3131 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30909.
