Doris Louise Smith, 92, of Ridgely, Maryland, formerly of Annapolis, MD entered into eternal peace on Saturday April 14, 2018. During her time on the Eastern Shore, Doris and her family also lived in Kent Island, MD.
Doris was born on June 10, 1925, in Annapolis, MD she was the daughter of the late Ralph R. and Sophie A. M. Johnson, of Annapolis, MD.
After graduating from Annapolis High School in 1943, Doris went to work for the switchboard at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD during World War II. In 1947 she married Lee F. Smith, Sr. (deceased) from Marquette, Michigan. Lee was serving at the time in the U.S. Navy. After her marriage to Lee, Doris took a position as an Acquisitions Librarian at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, from which she retired in the late 1980’s.
Along the way the Lord blessed Doris and Lee with four children. Cheryl A. Fowler (spouse – Tom), Lee F. Smith, Jr., Lynn M. d’Orlando (deceased) and Roy W. Smith (spouse – Sara). She was also blessed by nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Doris enjoyed family, road trips, reading, English history, especially information on the Royal family.
Visitation services will be held on Friday April 20, 2018, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with memorial services to be held on Saturday April 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Both the visitation and service will be held at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Glouchester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401.
Interment will be held in a private family ceremony the following week at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Annapolis, MD.
