Mr. Jimmy Smith, 87, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 in Valley Mills, Texas. A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2018, Cole Funeral Home, with Rev. David Cozart officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. the day of the service.
Jimmy was born November 19, 1930 to Wiley Mason and Ora Ophelia (Greeson) Smith in McGregor, Texas and was a longtime resident of McGregor. Jimmy graduated from McGregor High School in 1948 and was a member of College Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Smith served as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force from February 17, 1949 until October 31, 1975. He worked 13 years as a rural carrier for the United States Postal Service. Jimmy married the love of his life, Freda Graupmann on March 4, 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri and they celebrated 36 years together. He was an avid golfer, loved watching football and golf, and enjoyed living on Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Freda Smith; and sister, Martha Virginia Beavers.
Survivors include his sister, Mary Elizabeth McMillan and husband, Nelson Clark, of Valley Mills; nieces, Martha Sue (Sparks) Wilson and husband, William Dean, of Valley Mills, Denise (Sparks) Harris of Morgan; nephews, Wiley Mason Sparks and wife, Zoe, of Valley Mills, Michael Ross Sparks and wife, Teresa, of Utopia, Dwight McMillan and wife, Sarah, of Valley Mills, Anthony McMillan and wife, Dewanna, of Waxahachie; and numerous family members.
