Don was born in northern Indiana on March 30, 1930 to the late Max and Iva (Dowell) Kelp. Don married Thelma Mae Seitz on June 6, 1954 in Morgantown Indiana.
Don was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean War. He came back to Indiana after the war and worked at Cummins Engine until his retirement in 1987.
He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, gas engines, having yard sales and visiting with his neighbors. Don was a founding member of BC Antique Tractors.
Don is survived by his loving wife Thelma of 63 years, three children; Terry(Ginny)Kelp, Donna ( Luis Lopez) Lutes and Gary Kelp, three sisters; Maxine (Bob) Hedrick, Mary (Walter)Smale, Judy (Ken) Shroeder, three brothers; Jim (Bev) Kelp, Jerry (Annie) Kelp, and John (Judy) Kelp. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Kimberli (Paul) Carter, Cody Lutes, Ethan Lutes, Anna Lutes, Cameron Kelp, Libby Kelp, John Cunningham, Hailey Combest and Eddie Hardin two great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by two brothers; Dallas Kelp and Allen Kelp.
Visitation for Don will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. in Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, 1682 State Rd. 135 North, Nashville, IN 47448. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2019 at 11 a.m. with visitation from 9 a.m. until time of service also in the funeral home.
Entombment will be in Green Lawn Cemetery, Nashville.
