John Carneal, 71 of Goodlettsville, TN passed away on June 5th at McKendree Village. He was born in Springfield, TN June 24, 1946 to the late Stites Boyd and Helen Ruthe Carneal. John was a proud Springfield Yellow Jacket, playing for the legendary coach, Boyce Smith. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and served his country for 3 years with a tour of duty in Vietnam. John went to college at Austin Peay State University and met his wife, Kathy. They had a son, Mark. John went to work at DuPont where he spent his entire career. In the middle of his career, he was transferred to DuPont headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware. They moved back to Goodlettsville, TN where he lived the rest of his life. John was an active member of the Old Hickory United Methodist Church and a 32nd degree Sottish Rite Mason-member of the Western Star Lodge #9. John’s passions included working in his yard, travel, reading books, going to movies and the Tennessee Volunteers football team. John retired as early as he could to spend more time with his grandchildren, Sam & Sarah Beth. Kathy and his beloved family. Alzheimers took him from us way too soon and the ache in our hearts will be soothed by knowing he has been made whole again and with his heavenly Father. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Carneal, Son Mark(Molly)Carneal, grandchildren Sam and Sarah Beth Carneal, Brother Billy Paul(Pat) Carneal, Mother-in-law Jean McClung, Sister-in-law Patsy(Larry) Harrison and a host of loving nieces, nephews & friends. Visitation will be at Hermitage Funeral Home on Saturday, June 9th 4pm-8pm. On Sunday, June 10th, a brief visitation will be held at 2:00pm at Old Hickory United Methodist Church with the funeral to follow at 2:30pm with Brother Dave Winton officiating. Interment will be at Hermitage Memorial Gardens following the service. Active pallbearers, Gene Beck, Steve Brown, Brad Carneal, Sam Carneal, Carnes Flatt, Larry Harrison, John White.
