Viewing & Funeral services will be provided by Kaul Funeral Home of St. Clair Shores. The viewing will be from 3:00pm-8:00pm on June 13, 2018. The funeral will begin at 10:00am on Thursday, June 14, 2018 with a luncheon to follow.
Leonard was born to Stanislaus & Wladyslawa Smolinski on March 03, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the youngest of 8 children and attended St. Stanislaus High School. During this time Leonard was active in sports, especially basketball and enjoyed hanging out with friends and being the “jokester” which was just one of the many highlights of Leonard’s personality.
While working at Kroger to support his family, Leonard was drafted. During this time he held rank as Specialist 3rd class in the United States Army Airborne division and also obtained his GED. Shortly into his service in 1963, while home on leave, Leonard met Florence. After waiting for Leonard to return home, they married on September 18, 1965. Leonard returned to working at Kroger, working his way up to meat manager, eventually retiring after 42 years of service to spend time with his family.
Leonard will be remembered as “one heck of a guy” who always knew how to make anyone’s day and be there to help anyone, anytime, with anything. His family-oriented demeanor, generosity, and undying love (P.S.-381) will forever be an honor to have witnessed.
Leonard is survived by his wife Florence (72) of 52 years, his brother Walter (90), two sons, David (52) & wife Tania (50), Mark (49), and granddaughter Tracy (21) and husband Ryan (20).
