Ruth Speagle Lutz

Hickory-Ruth Speagle Lutz, 92 of Hickory, passed away peacefully at Abernethy Laurels on Saturday, June 16, 2018. Born January 8, 1926, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of late James Frank and Phebie Downs Speagle. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Clarence Willis Lutz; son-in-law Ernie Yount; sisters Pauline Bradshaw, Irene Whisnant and Frances Porell, and infant brother Arthur Speagle. Ruth was a long time member of Royal Chapel Church of God, where she served on the board of trustees, member of the church choir and helped with vacation bible school. She had a career as a Dietician, where she worked second shift as Dietetic Supervisor at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Ruth also was a member of a singing group from West Hickory Senior Citizen Center called the Joy Makers, where they visited nursing homes to entertain with their singing. Ruth was a former member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and Investment Club. A loving mother, wife, sister and grandmother, she was a caring and generous soul who spent her life giving to others. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Linda Lutz Yount of Hickory, a granddaughter Michelle Farr and husband Michael of Hickory; her sisters Dorothy Denniston of Anderson, IN, Betty Harvey of Salisbury, and Peggy Fox and husband George of Newton; and a brother Thomas Ralph Speagle of Clearwater FL, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Hickory Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Royal Chapel Church of God with Reverend Carlton Davison officiating. Mrs. Lutz will lie in state 30 mins prior to service.
