When he was younger, he served 2 years in the Army Air Corp.
Marvin was a true cowboy, and you would always see him in his Stetson hat and boots. He loved to go to Valley View and play slots. When he was not gambling, you could find him at El Rey enjoying his Mexican food and margarita.
Marvin is survived by; son Johnny Jo Bates, step-daughters Terry Larson and Robin Seehaas, and step-son Larry Makel, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife Joan M. Bates and six of his seven brothers and sisters.
A visitation for Marvin will be held Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at McLeod Mortuary, 1919 E. Valley Parkway, Escondido, CA 92027. A celebration of life will occur Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM, 1919 E. Valley Parkway, Escondido, CA 92027. A graveside service will occur Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1999 S. El Camino Real, Ocean, CA 92054. A reception will follow at 2 PM at Cocino del Charro, 1020 W San Marcos Blvd #50, San Marcos, CA 92078.
