Mittie Lou Dowden, 91, of DeQuincy, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at her residence. She was born to her late parents, Jasper and Nannie Ray in Alco, LA. She enjoyed a conversation over a good cup of coffee with friends and family, and topics of politics and storytelling were at the top of the list. Jokes were given daily and she always had everyone laughing. Mittie loved people and everyone loved her. She begin her career as an insurance agent, being awarded agent of the month on numerous occasions. As she aged, her love for people led her to home health and ultimately a personal caregiver. None of these things could ever compare to her love of God.
She is survived by her daughter, Janis Martin of DeQuincy; her son, James Curtis Dowden, III and wife Mary Kay of San Antonio, TX; one sibling, Johnnie Duncan of Dickinson, TX; two granddaughters, Sheree Boulis and husband Don of DeQuincy, Becky Karnafel of San Antonio, TX; five great grandchildren, Amanda, Katelyn, Amberlee, Allyka, Jericho; one great great grandson, Grant; with a great great granddaughter, Ryann on the way.
Mittie is preceded in death by her husband, James Curtis Dowden, II; parents, Jasper and Nannie Ray of Rosepine, LA; and seven siblings.
Visitation will be at Hixson Snider Funeral Home on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at 1:00pm with the services following at 2:00pm with Pastor Greg Cavenah officiating. Burial will follow at Rosepine Cemetery. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
