John was born March 26, 1936, in Akron, Ohio, to William Edward and Carrie Elizabeth Ahern Robinson. He and Laura Joyce Zinsmeister were married on Dec. 21, 1957, in Newark, Ohio. John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill, Charlie and Phil; and sisters, Joan and Dorothy.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, Steve and Jim; grandsons, Charlie, Henry and George, their mom, Mary Robinson; brother, Ken; and numerous nieces and nephews.
John graduated from Kent State University in 1958 and enlisted in the U.S. Army for three years. After completion of his duty, he began his career of 38 years at State Farm, retiring as vice president of general fire underwriting in the Fire Company.
John was a mentor to many and friend to more. He will be remembered for his quick wit, common sense, love of Cleveland sports and the game of golf. He was a member of Golden K Kiwanis, Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), El Paso Golf Club and Our Saviour Lutheran Church.
A private family service will be held in Ohio, and burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark, Ohio. The family requests no flowers, but memorials may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 1510 N. Main St., Normal, IL 61761.
