Joan Anne Scharn Dizenzo, 84, of Monroe, passed away on July 26, 2018 in New Haven. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, cooking, her pool, and taking care of her grandchildren. Joan was a passionate animal lover and had many dogs and cats as pets. She enjoyed feeding the birds and all the critters in her yard. Every stray cat in Monroe knew where to go!
Joan was born in Brooklyn, NY to Milton Scharn I and Clara Goodman Scharn on July 11, 1934. She graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport, CT. Joan married Salvatore C. Dizenzo on December 11, 1954 in Bridgeport, CT. She worked as an Assistant Manager for People’s Bank for 20 years.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, brother Milton Scharn II, husband, and daughter, Donna Gianni.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Deborah Pattyson and her husband, Brian D. Pattyson, her grandchildren Andrew D. Pattyson of Derby, CT, Julie Miko and her husband, Christopher of West Lafayette, IN, Andrea L. Gianni of Virginia, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Barbara Dizenzo, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 30, 2018 at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT.
Funeral services will be held beginning at 10:00 a.m. with a prayer service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT. Burial will follow at Cutler’s Farm and Elm Street Cemetery, Cross Hill Road, Monroe, CT.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.
