COLLETTSVILLE-Laverl Crisp Hayes, 94, of Collettesville passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Hudson. Mrs. Hayes was born November 2, 1923 in Caldwell County to the late John S. Crisp and Marth E. Philyaw Crisp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James Clifton Hayes, a son, James Hayes, daughter-in-law, Gloria Metz Hayes, brothers and sisters: Francis Lucille Crisp, William Joseph Crisp, Morris Eugene Crisp, Forest Columbus Crisp, Jewel Stillwell, John Vernon Crisp, Charles Clifton Crisp, Doris Bradshaw and an infant brother. Mrs. Hayes was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved the time she spent with her family. She loved to travel, visiting all 50 United States and several European Countries over the years. She was a dedicated volunteer at Caldwell Memorial Hospital for many years, a member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church and loved to crochet, gifting her creations to her family members who now cherish the doilies that she made them. Another of her loves was cooking and she will forever be remembered for her famous coconut crème pies. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, John David Hayes of Collettsville, daughter, Eloise Hayes Marley and husband Thomas of Lenoir, grandchildren, Jeff Marley, Denise Sesco, Karen Benge, Susan Hayes, Monica Icenhour, great-grandchildren, Ethan Sesco, Hunter Dillard, Madison Sesco, Caleb Dillard, Zoey, Danica Benge, Zoey Dillard and a daughter-in-law, Joyce Beane and husband Moe. Also left to cherish her memory are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. A funeral service to honor Mrs. Hayes will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Greer officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service, from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Sesco, Jeremy Benge, Jeff Marley, Hunter Dillard, Caleb Dillard and Ethan Sesco. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Laverl and her family during this time.
