Bill served as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Munich, Germany. After returning to the U.S. with his Fraulein, Anneliese, he then made his career in the Oil Field Business. Retiring after thirty-five years with Oil Well Supply/USS Steel he went to work at Cameron Steel for ten years. Bill loved family camping trips, fishing, growing his flowers, vegetable gardens, and fruit trees sharing with friends and family. He was passionate about giving to animal charities, Wounded Veterans Association, and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
He was called "Opa" (German meaning grandpa) by his family and friends, and Opa's favorite pastime was talking about his adoring family to everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, wife of 63 years, Anneliese Ferstl Perkins, parents, Joseph "Sebe" and Sara Smith Perkins, three brothers, Bill, Tom, and Clifton "Slim" Perkins, and five sisters, Ruth Watts, Ethel Cunningham, Gladys Arrant, Clarise Graves, and Francis Butler.
Those left behind to cherish his memory is a daughter, Sonja Perkins Paris and husband, Charles Roger Paris of Moss Bluff; one grandson, Roger Ladell Paris of Lake Charles; two nieces, Olivia Arrant and Etta Jane Baker and husband, Phillip both of Marion, La; a niece, Patsy Peters and late husband, Donald of Bridge City, Texas; and one nephew, Bobby Evans and wife, Kay of Rosenburg, Texas.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Services will be led by Celebrant, Jody Barrilleaux. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday with a Rosary at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
