JAMES JOSEPH MEYER SR., 93, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2018. Born Feb. 7, 1925, in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Esther (Pennington) Meyer. He attended Central Catholic High School. In 1943, he enlisted in the armed services as a member of the Coast Guard. During his enlistment he made 44 trips across the Atlantic Ocean. He was active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years and later in life at St. Henry's Catholic Church. He retired after 37 years from the Kroger Company as a diesel truck mechanic. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Barbara (Gase); sons, James Meyer Jr. and Robert Meyer; three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. He was also preceded by in death is his sister, Betty Brinkman.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at St. Henry's Catholic Church, 2929 E. Paulding Road, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, with a Rosary service at 3:30 p.m.
Preferred memorials are Masses to the church.
Burial at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, in Decatur, Ind.
