The family will receive guests on Monday, August 27, 2018 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Home, 5400 Bell St. Amarillo, TX. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 2 pm in the funeral home’s Pioneer Chapel with Bryan Cooper presiding. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Garden of Sundial. Following the graveside service, the family will receive guests at the family home, 3311 Bedford Road, Amarillo, TX.
Mae was born March 23, 1919 in Obar, NM. to Linzie C. and Ruby Lawrence. She married James Franklin Pittman on March 31, 1937 in Amarillo, TX where they raised their family together for 69 ½ years. Mae was surrounded with her loved ones in the weeks and days preceding her death. Mae was a loving wife, mom and Granny. Mae loved staying busy, they squared danced, traveled in their trailer with friends, rode motorcycles, did arts and crafts of all kinds and attended sports games for as many grandchildren as they could. Mae loved family get togethers, especially at Christmas, singing Christmas Carols. She always did things for others even at Heritage Convalescent Center; she tried to make others feel welcome.
She was preceded in death by her parents Linzie C. and Ruby Lawrence, husband James, and her brothers and sisters. Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Jim Pittman and wife Virginia, Norita Skelton and husband R.D., Pam McDanel, Penny Baker and husband Greg Baker; 8 Granddaughters, 17 Great Grandchildren and 10 Great-Great Grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and other dear friends.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation and gratitude to all of the staff of Heritage Convalescent Center for the wonderful four and a half years of care they provided to Mae.
