We've been out of the area for almost 30 years, but we used to return regularly to "do" The Ann Arbor Art Fair in the 90's and 00's.  Hebe always made it a point to stop by our booth and catch up for an hour or so.  We had been friends for years, and used to play cards and socialize on a regular basis.  I was drawn like many people to his quiet and thoughtful style.
Our heartfelt condolences to Lynn and his family.  

Richard meant so much to my growth as a person and a father. It's hard to write this in the past-tense  knowing he's not around share a thought or two around how to deal with my old GS carburetor, or just having a kindred spirit to complain to about a leak around my head gasket.  But I'll have to just be grateful for having the chance to hang around for a bit, listen to his terse nuggets of wisdom,  and observe what an amazing person he was. Richard was that quiet, wise soul -so rare these days- that lead by example and was never verbose. Traits I respect and admire. I'm also grateful to his contributions to P.T.D over the years. Having roped him into working the light board on his first show- it turned into a shared loved of the theater- a conversation we returned to often. 
Allison, Gabriel and I wish to extend all the love in the world to Becca and Lynn. 

Our world has lost a caring person in Richard.  Richard was always there to help anyone who had problems or needed anything fixed.  He was extremely talented and always knew just what to do to complete or fix a project.  He gave so generously of his time, and his expertise.   I feel sure our Lord needed him, but it was such a sad day to hear of his passing.  Prayers and condolences for Lynn and Rebecca and the rest of his family.  You should find comfort in knowing how much everyone loved Richard.  He will certainly be missed by all of us! RIP dear friend!!

So many vivid memories are an important part of our connection with  Richard, Lynn, Sarah & Rebecca.  They joined us on vacations, visits, lunches at the half way point,  and shared  happy occasions and difficult ones too.    Our hearts are  lonelier missing Richard ‘s friendship and fix-it practicality.  Still, we are most grateful to have him touch our lives, in the unique Richard style.   We hope that Lynn and Rebecca can grieve as they must, while they remember the best parts and stories of family and Richard.  With love,  appreciation , laughter and tears at the great loss. 

I will always remember Hebie listening carefully to any conversation and often, at some point, he would stroke his chin, old farmer-style and begin a comment with "Jeez, Mouse..." and go in with a pithy yet pertinent question or statement.  When a deserving laugh bubbled up, it commanded his entire face and instantly transformed it into the classical "Comedy" mask. Richard's laugh mask was not present to conceal, however, but to reveal some joy that he freely shared with us.
How did he get the family name "Brooks"? I have always thought that he had no middle name, and that we friends often called him "B" to acknowledge and approve this fact. Huh.

It is with great sadness but also great joy to have been a part of the Heberlein family. I lived with them for many years as I forged my way forward. The breaking of bread, PTD Productions, kindness, a role model of love for each other. They are extended family. We are only on this journey a short while and I cannot think of any place on earth I would have wanted to spend my time then with Lynn and Richard. I am forever changed because of their kindness and love. Thank you!  Peace and Love

 Hebe was a great guy, he worked on my car, we played volleyball at many BBQs, sat at many late night poker games.
We'll miss him.

Shared many meals, acted together, directed him and was directed by him, watched he and Lynn bravely grieve their daughter Sarah and lovingly stand by Becca.  Wonderful and kind and talented man   Can’t quite believe he has left this earth.  

Linda and I have been blessed to have Richard, Lynn and their lovely daughters as neighbors for many years now and through those years we have learned about their love of life and each other through their stories of music, dance, acting, and travel.   With each of those stories, our sense of Richard as a kind and profoundly good man only strengthened.  We will miss him terribly.
