    My grandmother was one of the most beautiful women I have known. She had the kindest soul, biggest heart, and best sense of humor. 
     Growing up, I always looked forward to visiting my grandparents - their home was a place to relax and spend time with the people that I loved. Ma always made sure to have fresh cookies, tons of play-dough, and coloring books ready. Some of my favorite memories were around her kitchen table and packing lunch for Papa to take to work. She always made sure we had fun no matter what we were doing. 
    Ma was an incredible storyteller and loved sharing all of her mischievous stories about growing up with her brothers. She taught me all of her jokes and all the tricks to annoy my parents. 
    Some of my favorite stories are about the animals that her family rescued and raised growing up. Her love for wildlife was something I always appreciated about her. We never went a day without her reminding Papa to take me out to feed the animals and make sure they were ready for winter - even in July. 
   I will always appreciate this unconditional love that she had for me and I know that my love for her will last forever. 

Ma, I love you to the moon and back. 
  

My favorite memory of Ma is her homemade chocolate chip cookies.  She would always have a fresh batch baked  for us when we arrived.  I remember when I was younger spending all day in the car to drive from Baton Rouge to Peoria and looking forward to getting there to stretch my legs and eat some cookies.  

I love and miss Ma very much.

MEMORIES OF MY BABY SISTER CAROL

As a young girl…Carol swinging on the back-yard swing and laughing as I pushed her higher.
  Her love of ripe tomatoes , so much so that she would sit in the garden and eat them directly from the vine.
Her kind and forgiving nature when dealing with people
 Her love of family, especially grand children
 I used to kid her about the ears of corn nailed to the tees in her yard.  Many is the time she sent Kelly out into the snow to replenish the squirrel feeders.  She loved all the animals in her yard. Even the racoons.  
We three brothers were always in trouble, but Carol never.  We thought she was a very good little girl.
When I was overseas in the Army, I always looked forward to her letters and news clippings from Peoria.  She always could be counted on to know what was going on.
I will miss our weekly phone conversations and I will miss my baby sister always.
I love you, Carol.  Rest in Peace.


Today as we get ready to head north to be with our family, I am sad because Carol is missed.  Carol was a mother to me and a wonderful grandmother to  Madelaine and David.  I am thankful for having her as part of my life.   She welcomed me into her family in 1994 when I married her daughter Janet.  I am forever grateful to the Lancaster Family for introducing me to the love of my life.   My heart is heavy today because I know Janet is also sad.  

It is true that she made every life she touched better.  Her great sense of humor and sharp wit were a joy to her friends and family.  We always had fun kidding with each other and neither of us ever grew tired of the banter.  Carol told me I was her favorite son-in-law even for the many years I was her only son-in-law.  Her sense of humor always kept me on my toes.

One of my favorite memories is how much she loved animals.  Not only did Carol support world wildlife she insisted "Mother Raccoon" needed to be fed daily because she always had a new batch of baby raccoons.  Kelly would smirk, and then dutifully deliver dinner leftovers to the tree stump out back.  Her love of animals even touched the neighborhood squirrels who were so  well fed that they could no longer fit in their "little corn cob chairs" to eat.  We would tell Carol that she had a squirrel obesity problem and she would laugh and tell us to stop.  Carol was always quick to correct us that the squirrels were not fat but just getting ready for winter.

Finally, I was always amazed by her sharp mind and sense of direction.  Carol was better than GPS.  Nothing was better than having her ride "shot gun" because she would help get you anywhere .    I remember many times Kelly would pull up to a stop sign and just wait for the next direction from Carol.
Telling you where to go, was quintessential Carol.

Carol you are missed and forever loved, we know you are in heaven and at peace with no more pain but our hearts are broken.

We are so sorry to hear of Carol's passing. She had such a great personality and we will cherish the times we shared with her.
In so many ways both large and small she touched so many lives she will be remembered by many and never be forgotten .

I will miss my favorite cousin...born the same year as me.  We shared more than the same birth year.  Life brought us close later in life, but I am so glad for Carol's love, sincerity, and generous spirit.  She set an example for all of us, and I hope that we can all carry forward her example of love and honesty  in her honor and memory.   My condolences to Kelly and her daughters and grandchildren.
