He was born January 6, 1929 in Greene County, a son of the late Paul W. Crum and V. Kate Crum.
“Duck” graduated from Greeneville High School and served in the United States Army, 25th Infantry Division from 1950-1952 during the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of Corporal. He was wounded in the conflict at Ponzung, North Korea. For his service, he was awarded the following honors: Korean Service Medal, with four bronze stars; Combat Infantry Badge; two Purple Hearts; Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; and the United Nations Service Medal.
Donald worked for the Pet Milk Company for 42 years. He served as President of the Pet Milk Company Union for 30 years.
Donald was of the Lutheran faith. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. In 2007, the Glenwood Ruritan Club and the Greene County Legislative Board declared June 14, 2007, “Donald D. Crum Day”.
Survivors include his son, Donnie E. Crum of Greeneville; his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah C. and Michael Fraysier of Texas; three grandchildren: Deena S. Cornblum and husband, Eddie, Brye F. Ritchie and husband, Todd, and Zion Chase Fraysier; great grandchildren: Tarren Lisenbe, Couper Cornblum, and Landry Ritchie; a niece, Kathy C. Hopson and husband, Kenny; three nephews: Bobby Gene Crum and wife, Nita, Grant Crum and wife, Bridget, Patrick Crum and wife, Michelle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis Crum of Ohio, J.C. Crum and Paul Edward Crum of Greeneville. His former wife, Wilma “Snookie” Fair Crum also preceded him in death in September 2018.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at 10 am Wednesday at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service. Family and friends are asked to meet at 9 am Wednesday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbears will be Alfred Shaw, Garry Franklin, Dale Gregory, Bobby Gene Crum, Grant Crum and Patrick Crum.
