Janet Shirley Grills, 1935 to 2018, went to be with the Lord this past Saturday, November 17, 2018. Shirley was born on November 18, 1935 in Wise County, VA to Ballard and Hattie Lawrence. On August 23, 1953, Shirley married the love of her life, James Luther Grills, Sr. and after making a lifetime of memories together and raising a family, he preceded her in death on January 28, 2015.
Shirley enjoyed cooking and making crafts. From quilting to painting ceramics, Shirley found solace in the simple things in life. She loved her family and she sewed threads of love into her family’s life that will never fray.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Ballard S. Lawrence and Hattie B. Bray Lawrence; her loving husband, James; and a daughter, Janet Boggs. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Pamela Bishop; two sons, James Grills, Jr. and Michael “Tony” Grills and wife Patricia; nine grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren and one on the way.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the front parlor of East Lawn Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 1:00 pm at East Lawn Memorial Park in Mausoleum I with Pastor Will Shewey officiating.
