I attended Lasley Elementary School with Ray in Lakewood, Colorado in 2nd and 3rd grade.  I considered Ray one of my best friends.  We liked dinosaurs, and GI Joe's, and the TV show SWAT.  Ray was my "go-to" playmate in the neighborhood.  I was crushed when the Weiss family moved to Arizona after 3rd grade.

Many years later I ran into Mary Weiss at the University of Arizona my freshman year of college.  I have the best memories of Ray smiling and laughing.  He was one of the happiest kids I knew.  I am sad to see that he died so young.  I just wanted to share my memories of Ray as a kid, and I promise to look for photos from our days at Lasley to post.

Dad, I have learned so much from you and I know there was so much more I could and should have learned, but I will never forget the times we have spent together. You supported me however you were able to, when I was in 5th grade and had a "discus" through competition you took off a lawnmower tire so I could practice. When you were taking me to Cross Country meets you would stop and get me a candy bar for "energy" because you knew I didn't eat breakfast before a meet. we never did get to do the Cactus Alumni Race like we had said we were going to, but we did go camping a lot and those were some of the best times I had. I will always cherish those memories with you. Now you are with Papa and Nana and I know they are both happy and sad to see you, happy because you are finally reunited, and sad that your time had to come to an end. Just know I love you and that I know you are out there looking over me now and forever. I miss you Dad. 

Ray and I dated in high school and broke up when we were 30 years old. We had 15 years of a lot of great times with family and friends. Ray had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back if you asked. We have a terrific son Mathew who is now 22. He was the light in his daddy’s eye. Ray you will be missed so much but have no fear this cyber stalking mama has watch over our son. I will make sure that our grand babies know who their Papa Ray was and never let Mathew forget. 

My thoughts on Ray

One night while we were in high school, kirk and I went to a collage party and I was going to show those light weights how to drink.  I ended up drinking most of a bottle of whisky but the ones that have the handle on the neck so it was very large.

Kirk had to drive me home and try to get my ass into the house without my mother finding out so for help he drove to Rays house getting him up in the middle of the night.  When he opened the door I puked on his shoes.

Even after that he helped me into the house and in bed where my mother could smell me driving home from work, so I got in trouble anyway.
