He was born on August 26, 1956 in Lake Charles to his parents, John Wiley Brewer and Nickie Grout Brewer. He was a 1974 graduate of Westlake High School. He was a 1978 graduate of McNeese State University, where he was in the Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity, President. He married the love of his life, Mabel Grace Wilson Brewer on April 11, 1981. He was an electrician at Cities Service, and a member of IBEW. John was with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department for 33 years; was a member of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Honor Guard; EMT/Paramedic for 30 years. He was a member of LA 1 and LA 8 Blue Knights. He was a member of the SWAMP Plastic Model Club, along with a member of the Single Action Shooting Society. He was very creative and was an avid photographer, which eventually led him to creating Bayouland Photography, which he established in 1984 to the present. He loved riding motorcycles with his friends and colleagues. He volunteered countless hours with other deputies and officers, and enthusiasts with firearm instruction training. John always volunteered his time for the Calcasieu Parish Junior Deputies. He loved hunting, fishing, and was a true outdoorsman. Most of all his family was very important to him, and every year, they would host family get togethers and events.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mabel Grace Wilson Brewer; mother, Nickie Grout Brewer; two sons, John Wilson Brewer and wife Megan of Westlake, James Nicholas Brewer and wife Lynnlee of Sulphur; two daughters, Helena Nichole Olson and husband Gregory of Denham Springs, LA, Mary Grace Brewer and fiance' Ryan Racca of Westlake; Aunts and Uncles, Gretchel Grout Ieyoub and husband Kalil of Lake Charles, Rev. Roy Lee Johnson and June of DeRidder; Aunt, JoAnn Grout Walker of Tallahassee, Florida; and three grandchildren, John Matthew Brewer, Owen Paul Brewer, and Michael Ian Olson.
John is preceded in death by his father, John Wiley Brewer; and grandparents, John A. and Emily Brewer of DeRidder, and Nicholas D. and Delma Grout of Westlake.
A Celebration of John's life will be held at Hixson Funeral Home in Westlake at 10:00am on Friday, December 14, 2018 with Bro. Bart Leger officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home in Westlake on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Friday, from 9:00am until the time of the service. A private graveside service will take place at a later date.
