Julius Henry Rainwater

Julius Rainwater, age 93, died December 30, 2018 at his Senior Community, The Oaks of Towne Lake, in Woodstock, Georgia. He was born into a large, loving family on March 19, 1925. He is preceded in death by his sweetheart, Gloria Welch Rainwater, whom he married in 1945. He is also preceded in death by his greatly loved grandson, David Rainwater and his siblings, Earl, Agnes, Evelyn, Oliver, Odelle, Charles, Dawson, and Henderson.

Julius will be honored and remembered by his children and their spouses, Hank and Mary Rainwater and Jan and Scott Luley, his grandsons and their spouses, Brian and Christina and Blake and Aviva, and his grandson, Matthew. In addition, he was cherished by his step grandchildren, Erin and Ken Reinker and their son, Thomas and Ryan and Rita Kane and their daughters, Nora and Bridget. Julius will be missed by his only surviving sister, Jean Grant and many loving nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.

He was born in Hapeville, Georgia, lived for many years in the Ben Hill area of Atlanta and moved to Conyers, Georgia in 1973 where he lived until he moved to The Oaks of Towne Lake in November of 2017.

Julius proudly served in the Signal Corp of the US Army during World War 11. It was there he discovered his passion and aptitude for mechanical and electrical engineering. Thanks to the GI Bill, Julius graduated from The Georgia Tech Institute of Technology in 1950, with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was avidly devoted to his alma mater and represented the gold and white in his apparel on most occasions! He served as his senior class president.

Julius began his career as a draftsman for the Warren Refrigeration Company in Atlanta and worked there for 25+ years, the last years as vice president of engineering and of management. One of his crowning achievements was to serve as the US Representative of the International Standards for Refrigeration, which gave him the opportunity to travel to Europe on many occasions. Following his retirement from The Warren (now Kysor - Warren) company, Julius pioneered several start-up companies in Conyers, Georgia.

Although he was extremely proud of his academic and professional achievements, he would want most to be remembered as a man who loved God with all his heart, mind, and soul. One of his greatest joys was his ministry to the Sixth graders of Rockdale Baptist Church in Conyers and his role in the clown ministry of the same church.

He was an eternal optimist, a born leader, and a joyful and playful individual. Everyone knew that when Julius was around there would be laughter. Fun was his middle name! He was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a loyal friend to many.

Services will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son - Canton Hill Chapel at 1157 Old Canton Rd, Marietta, GA 30068 on Friday, January 4 at 11 AM. Visitation will be held one hour before the service, at 10:00 AM. A graveside service will follow, on Friday at College Park Cemetery, off Virginia Avenue in College Park, GA.
