John H. Ellingson, 72, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away Sunday morning, January 6, 2019 after a long illness. He was born June 19, 1946 in Beloit, WI, the son of Harley and Evelyn (Berg) Ellingson. John graduated from high school and went on to serve in the United State Air Force, where he was stationed in Germany for 5 years. He was a brick layer in the union for many years before retiring. John was an amazing father, who had profound love for his two sons. He was a workaholic, who enjoyed camping at Lakeland Campground for many years. John took pride in everything he did.
John is loved and missed by his sons, Brian (Kirsten) Ellingson, and Jeff (Kristy) Ellingson; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Devin and Blake Ellingson; sisters, Sandra Stangland, and Christine Ellingson-Mollen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and both his brother-in-laws.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a visitation prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. Cremation rites have been accorded.
