Emma Blouin Watts

Emma Blouin Watts, age 93, passed away on January 10, 2019 in Mobile, AL at home with loved ones. She was born on May 6, 1925 to John Blouin and Victoria Gilbert, and raised in Hallowell, ME. At the age of 13, Emma left home determined to get an education- against her father’s wishes for her to work in a shoe factory. She lived with a woman who ran a nursing home for four years, cooking and cleaning before and after school. Emma served in the Army Nurse Corp. after graduating high school so nursing school would be paid for. She received her Bachelors degree when she was 50 years old. Emma Watts was the Director of Nurses at Doctors Hospital for over 27 years, and is still remembered years later by former students and fellow nurses. Her legacy was “good nursing care” that she taught to all staff. She was an incredible mentor.

She is preceded in death by her parents, 14 brothers and sisters, and son, John H. Watts Jr. Emma is survived by one remaining sister, Esther Morgan of Augusta, ME; her daughters Mary Ellen Leffard (David) of Atlanta, GA; Kathy A. Sullivan (Richard) of Mobile, AL; and Diana M. Walters (Darren) of Mobile, AL; her grandchildren, Kristopher Bahouth (Jessica); Michael Bahouth; Stephen Bahouth (Katie); Mary Katherine Sullivan; Emily Rebekah Sullivan; Madeline Rittich-Watts; and her great-grandchildren, Caiden Bahouth; Cooper Bahouth; Caroline Bahouth; Blair Bahouth; and William Bahouth. A memorial service will be held at Cottage Hill Presbyterian Church on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital NICU.
