Born on September 1, 1922 in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late William Harvey Stone and the late Annie Frances Gibson Stone. Gertrude was a resident of Lynchburg since December, 2013, formerly living in Washington, D.C. for many years where she retired from serving as a hostess at the Roma Restaurant. Former places of employment include the Luau Hut, and Pearson’s Drug Store.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, baby Louise Stone, Arlene S. Pullum, Lois S. Wilson, Geneva S. Tucker, and Melva S. Martin, as well as two brothers, Milford Stone and Eugene Stone.
Gertrude is survived by her brother, Harvey Cephus Stone; sister-in-law, Lois B. Stone; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to the staff and friends at Curis of Lynchburg and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their loving care of Gertrude.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Old City Cemetery Chapel, with Rev. Earnest G. Carey, Jr., Pastor of Flat Creek Baptist Church, officiating.
