Prescott Andrew Benson

Scott was born in Los Angeles, CA on Sept. 20, 1931 to Prescott Oscar Benson and Lois Guffin Benson. His mother, Lois lived in Globe, AZ but went to Los Angles to visit family. During that time she gave birth to Scott and because of this, Scott always felt he really was a native of Arizona as his mother was just visiting California. Funny debate when he was asked if he was a native of Arizona!! He is survived by one daughter Debbie Benson, Son-in-law Ken Murdock; three Grandsons Michael (Cari) & Marcus (Krissy) Martinez and Prescott Murdock; one granddaughter Janea Murdock; five great grandchildren Kaela, Colby, Dylan, Braeton, Mckinley Martinez; and one great-great grandson Giovanni, with one more due in March.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother (Dwayne), wife (Helen) and one daughter (Denise Murdock) and many more loved ones that were waiting for him to enter the gates of heaven.

Education was important to Scott. He attended Globe Grade School, Globe High School, Southwest Christian Seminary (Phoenix, AZ), Lincoln Christian Seminary (Lincoln, IL.- Bachelor and Masters degrees) where he focused on Bible Church history.

Scott was blessed by Ministering to the Illinois Christian Church, Valley Christian Church, and Chandler First Christian Church, as a full time Minister. He served as Intern Minister and Minister to Seniors at several other churches throughout Arizona. During his work career he also worked at SRP and NFIB (National Federation of Independent Businesses.)

An avid reader and was mostly interested in the history of Arizona. He was known to read the newspaper front to back and if he thought that any articles were beneficial to any family member he would send that article to that specific person. He also enjoyed making “stuff” out of cactus ribs, an old hub of a wagon wheel found on his families land and various other unique pieces of wood. He said that his theme song for his projects should be “Revive Us Again!!” When he no longer served as a Minister, he felt his place in life was to make people smile and/or laugh----and he did!! He had a great sense of humor.

He loved his family with all of his heart. His eyes would light up when he saw one of his grandchildren enter into a room as he was so proud of them. Scott's grandsons and families, later in their Grandfather's life, would take him on various day excursions in Arizona. They loved hearing from their Grandfather about the history of Arizona as they were driving. He was truly a blessing to have as a Dad, according to oldest daughter Debbie.

Services will be held at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens, 4310 E. Southern Ave., Phoenix, AZ on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019. Viewing will be held in the Chapel 10:00–11:00; service11:00–12:15; burial from 12:15–12:45. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley.
