Renato Ortega Jones

Renato Ortega Jones, better known as “Papa,” was an honorable man. A man with great dignity and strength. He was born in Manila, Philippines on March 10, 1939 where he was raised to become a provider. In 1963, Renato fell for the girl next door, and the love of his life, Carmelita Carino. He faced his battles as their relationship was a forbidden one but stayed very persistent in ensuring their love was stronger than any father’s want for them apart. Making her Mrs. Jones on July 25, 1965, they’ve shared an inseparable bond since. From there, they began their empire. Beginning their family in 1966, Renato and Carmelita brought seven beautiful children into the world: Kerwin, Katherine, Kimberly (Joanne), Kenneth, Kelvin, Kert, and Karent. Together, they made Papa whole, and the happiest he could be. To provide for their growing family, Papa became an Oil Seaman in 1970 and dedicated 14 years of his life. Finding a passion for travel through his line of work, Papa has shared many stories of his memories on the ship, and his experiences to all the ports around the world. Making the decision to move the family to America, he went first in 1984 to San Francisco, California, and in a later date to Las Vegas, NV. Living in America, he enjoyed playing basketball, going to casinos to play slot machines, and placing bets on horse racing. On the other hand, there was nothing he loved more in the world than spending time raising his 16 grandchildren and being a best friend to his three great grandchildren: Lyrik, Antonio, and Angelo.

On this day, we grieve to let Papa go so sudden, but his spirit lives on through each and every one of us. We shall take the lessons of life he has put into example and continue to make him proud. Continue to love each other, our family. Stay close, and apart of each other’s lives. For family is all we have, and the one thing money can’t buy. Our lord needed his son, our Papa, and is congratulating him on his job well done at Heavens gates. Papa was a loving, charming man. A giver, an entertainer, a laughable story-teller. He is the definition of the best husband, friend, father, grand-father, and great-grandfather anyone could have. We should not say goodbye, for this is only temporary. We will rejoice with him again in our afterlife, and he will be waiting with open arms.
