Clayton Wayland Ries

Clayton joined the graces of God on March 2nd, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents; Esther and Dale Ries, brothers; Don Ries, Gilbert Ries, Gordon Ries, Sister; Georgia Osterle, and son; Gregory Wayland Ries. Clayton is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Ries (Prater) of 56 years, Children; Chad Clayton (Freddy) and CW Brett (Erin) and his five grandchildren; Jalen, Megan, Macie, Chantel, and Cole Ries and brothers; Milton and Richard Ries.

Clayton grew up in Dansville, MI where he resided with his wife Betty until his time of passing. Clayton was a devoted and hardworking Plumber and Pipefitter at Local 333 where he achieved a 50 year lifetime membership. His time was spent working on numerous projects within the Greater Lansing area and earned the nickname “Butch” from his close friends and colleagues.

When not working, Clayton was an avid Michigan State fan and Detroit fan, but enjoyed sports of all kinds. His favorite sport to play was golf, where he spent a lot of time on the green with his wife Betty and closest friends.

After retiring in 2002, Clayton dedicated his time to his grandchildren’s numerous sports and activities where you could find him behind a video camera always documenting their accomplishments. One of the many hobbies that Clayton enjoyed was volunteering at Michigan State University Agricultural Food Bank. He enjoyed the several hours of harvesting the fruits and vegetables, as well as gardening and growing flowers in his yard. He was incredibly passionate about the outdoors and daydreamed about catching the biggest walleye in Canada where the Ries family and friends spent many summers!

Clayton was a strong, proud and good man with a huge heart! He is loved and will be missed by many.

A private memorial service has been scheduled for immediate family members.
