Lorna was born March 7, 1929, In Fort Collins to Emanuel and Kathryn Bott Socolofsky. She graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1946 and attended Parks Business School in Denver. She then worked as a secretary for several years prior to her marriage to Alvin L. McFall on November 19, 1950.
Lorna and Alvin ranched north of Fort Collins in the Buckeye Community area for more than 40 years with their son Loren joining the family business.
Lorna also worked outside of the ranch, retiring from Woodward Governor company after 17 years of service. She was one of the first women supervisors in the company in the electrical assembly department.
Upon retirement, Lorna and Alvin traveled throughout the Southwest in their trusty Ford pickup truck and travel trailer, and spent several winters in a retirement community in Florence, Arizona.
Lorna enjoyed animals and nature. She always had a pair of binoculars nearby to get a closer look at was flying, standing or running by. Lorna and Alvin made a trip to the sagebrush country one year to watch the mating ritual of the greater sage-grouse. Her love of animals and nature was infectious. The backyards of her three children are filled with bird feeders. Daughter Linda keeps a close eye on the birds, squirrels, foxes, deer and occasional bear that visit her Fort Collins home. Son Loren has to watch out for mountain lions roaming the foothills of Roxborough Park while enjoying the great outdoors and other less dangerous wildlife. The Eastern Bluebird population in daughter Lurene’s neighborhood in Georgia is now thriving due to a single bluebird house standing in her front yard.
Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Lewis McFall, brother Lorrin Socolofsky and sister Lucille Socolofsky Day. Lorna is survived by her three children, Linda (Roger) DeWitt of Fort Collins, Colorado, Loren (Brenda) McFall of Roxborough Park, Colorado, and Lurene (Lewis) Sturm of Roswell, Georgia; six grandchildren, Leslie Karsten, Carol DeWitt, Adam Sturm, Zachary Sturm, Sarah Reeser and Cortney Rehnberg; six great-grandchildren: her namesake Lorna Karsten, Liam Karsten, Emma , Lora and Madison Reeser and Eva Rehnberg.
A Celebration of Life and Reception will be observed at Allnutt Reception Center at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, following a private graveside ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Pathways Hospice in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 W Drake Rd, Fort Collins, CO 80526.
