Betty Jo Barthlow, 94, passed away April 9, 2019. She was born January 20, 1925 in Okechobee, Florida and resided in Middleburg, Florida since 1930. Mrs. Barthlow was a faithful servant of Our Lord and Savior, never wavering in her strong faith as the longest-standing member of First Baptist Church of Middleburg since 1938 serving in the choir, as Church Clerk/Historian, Sunday School teacher and Apape House Volunteer. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She enjoyed bird watching, calligraphy, cooking, traveling with her friends, and was a gifted painter. She was employed at Camp Blanding and NAS Jacksonville as Comptroller, retiring in 1981. After retirement her service to her community did not end. Betty Jo was also a Volunteer Pink Lady at Orange Park Medical Center for many years. Mrs. Barthlow is predeceased by her husband, George Barthlow, parents Joseph Wesley and Alma Johnson, sisters Alma Jean Johnson, Clara Warner, Bobby Studstill and Juan Jose Saunders, brothers Percy, Clyde and Leroy Johnson. She is survived by her daughter, Julia Joseph (George), her son Steven Barthlow (Patricia), 7 grandchildren Jennifer Joseph, Joy Crump (James), Kimberly Joseph, Kayla Tyer (Daniel), Nathan Barthlow, Lauren Barthlow and Heather Barthlow, 9 great grandchildren Jordan Joseph, Jenna, Jared and Jay Crump, Gracie Waldeck, Kylee Tyer, Joseph Boysen, Jr., Kaitlyn Tyer, and Shayla McCray, and 2 great-great grandchildren Princeton and Kaleb McCray. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 AM Thursday, April 18, 2019 with 1 hour prior visitation at First Baptist Church of Middleburg, 2645 Blanding Blvd, Middleburg, Florida 32068. Interment will follow at Middleburg United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3925 Main Street, Middleburg, Florida 32068. Please leave words of comfort at www.hardage-giddensrivermead.com.
